Whiplash

You're stopped in your car looking forward, unaware of any current danger, thinking life is fine, when boom! - you get rear ended by another car. Your head flips back into the headrest and then forward again so fast that you barely know what happened. You may experience neck pain, headache, and a general foggy feeling. Sometimes these symptoms take two or three days to appear. What has really happened to your spine, brain, and nervous system?

Even though the car may have received little damage, occupants can suffer serious spinal injury.

The rear end collision produces ultra fast (high G-force) movement of your head backwards that exceeds muscle control. This results in compressive injury to your brain stem and injury to your spinal joints.

Unfortunately, when spinal joints are sprained and strained, there is also injury to the nervous system and subluxation (misalignment) of the individual vertebrae.

Most whiplash injuries are not effectively treated. Drugs and prolonged immobilization in collars and the most common treatment.

However, studies now show that prolonged immobilization and drugs for pain and inflammation produce poor healing, with the development of scar tissue adhesions. This unfortunate healing process ultimately results in reduced range of motion and an increase in future chronic misalignment of vertebrae.

The solution is for injury victims to have very low force chiropractic adjustments immediately after the accident. This leads to a more balance and complete healing process and ultimately produces better spinal health in your future.
